Woodward Academy Lower School 2024-25

Rebecca: In the fall of 2024, I integrated the use of kinesthetic teaching strategies into our regular Mindful Mathletes curriculum. For example, students are able to hop on a mat when solving Leo the Kangaroo and the Ice Cream Scoop problem. At first, students were quite confused and didn’t know how to utilize the mat to solve a math task. Later into the workshops, surprisingly, one of the most naughty students, Quinn, became a leader in the classroom and repeated the steps as she jumped around the mat to find a solution to 1+2+3+...+10. It is truly inspiring to see how students become patient and interested in math through the use of multiplication mats provided by the National Math Foundation.
